The people of the Dying Earth are elegant, cynical, and aware that the world is ending. This knowledge leads to the pursuit of pleasure, power, and beauty. Iucounu the Laughing Magician keeps his spell-book under lock and key. The rogue Cugel the Clever takes what isn't his.
